Performance of banks under education loan in Tamilnadu as at 30th Sep 2010

We got the information from State Level Bankers Committee, Tamilnadu on the education loan outstanding as on 30th Sep 2010 along with the total outstanding of advances.   

As on 30th Sep 2010, in Tamilnadu all the Banks have an outstanding of Rs.8841 crores under education loan.  This constitutes 2.79 percent of their total advances.  Public Sector Banks have an outstanding of Rs.8511 crores, constituting 3.65 percent of their advances.

Private Banks in Tamilnadu have done very poorly under education loan.  They have given only 0.39 percent of their total advances.   Excepting Lakshmi Vilas Bank and Tamilnadu Mercantile Bank, other banks have not taken the education loan seriously.  

Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and IndusInd Bank have practically not contributed anything under education loan.
